Congress seeks harshest punishment to tiger poachers

PANJIM: Following the discovery of bodies of a tiger family, Congress has urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to mete out the ‘harshest punishment’ possible to those behind the ‘heinous’ crime.
Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat, in a tweet, expressed shock over the killing of the tiger family in Sattari’s Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary. “Most shocking to hear about murder of tiger family by poisoning in Sattari. I condemn the heinous act. I demand @goacm to ensure that the killers are caught and given harshest punishment,” the former Chief Minister tweeted, adding, “Let us live and let the tigers live.”
Further, Congress president Girish Chodankar said, “Like drug trade, tiger poachers are flourishing under the active patronage and protection of Goa’s BJP government.” Chodankar said that the tiger deaths are happening in well-forested constituencies represented by BJP. “This disgusting and deplorable turn of events and BJP government’s silence is a clear indicator that the BJP is hand in glove with the poachers,” he added.
“This is shocking and distressing that we have lost four tigers during BJP rule in this State and three in just the past week alone,” he said, referring to an earlier tiger killing in Goa. “We demand with Chief Minister to come clear on status of protection of these magnificent representatives of India’s biodiversity in Goa,” he added.
