PORVORIM: The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) on Tuesday threatened not to allow the State Legislative Assembly to function if the government fails to withdraw the circular issued prohibiting government officials from visiting the residences and offices of the elected representatives.
Addressing media persons after the Assembly session, CLP leader Chandrakant Kavlekar said that MLAs will not allow the House to function, even on other days, if the government fails to withdraw the circular, as demanded.
“We are not going to accept this. Government will have to withdraw the circular, which is anti-people,” he stated in presence of his other MLAs.
Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said the circular issued in June is not an ordinary circular but against the mandate of the people, against the Indian Constitution, against the right of member of House and against Peoples Representative Act. “We have never heard of such dictator circular in our entire political career. This is tyranny of the executive against elected representative of the people,” he said.
Former chief minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat recalled that no government has ever introduced such a dictatorial circular. “What we are demanding is that just the circular be withdrawn. That is all,” he stated.
A detailed discussion on the issue will be held on Wednesday on the Floor of the House during the calling attention motion moved by the opposition.
