SANGUEM/PONDA: The Congress meeting held at Shrison Plaza, Sanguem had some anxious moments after Congress workers Agostinho Fernandes alleged that party president Girish Chodankar is responsible for the failure of the party in the State.
Fernandes put Chodankar off guard asking for explanation on what the latter did to rebuild the party image after 10 MLAs left the party and blamed him of all the debacles the party was through over the years.
Fernandes was supported by another worker but the differences were however settled after the interference of the party leaders.
Chodankar urged the party workers to remain united and to work hard in the coming elections to see the party candidate win with majority votes.
Dinesh Gundurao appealed the party workers to strengthen the party base in Sanguem and gave a target to enrol 5000 new members into the party fold in a month.
Gundurao also urged the party workers to visit the counterparts in the remote areas and understand their problems.
Congress party workers of recently dissolved block committee members at Ponda too demanded removal of Chodankar from post of party president and Digamber Kamath to step down from leadership of Congress. The party workers said unless Kamath and Girish are removed from party leadership the party would not grow. They made this demand at the backdrop of Congress Party desk in charge P Chidambaram visiting the state of Goa.
Sandeep Amonkar, Rasik Parkar, Agostinho Fernandes and Francis Sardhina held press. Amonkar was furious over Chodankar dissolving the block committee. He claimed that the party owes to Block Committee members and senior party workers for bringing Congress in Ponda for four times. He said both leaders gave entry to new member in Congress without taking senior party workers into confidence.
Amonkar claimed that there are many other leaders in the party and they should be given chance to build the party in the State. He suggested names of MLA Alex Reginald and Sankalp Amonkar for the leadership.
Sandeep criticised Digamber Kamath for joining candle light rally at Kranti Maidan Ponda for justice to Siddhi Naik from Calangute. He said “We too want justice to Siddhi Naik. But why the Margao MLA Digamber Kamath did not raise any voice and take action against accused who did bomb blast at Margao few years ago?”
