MARGAO: The Cuncolim police have booked a police constable attached to the Betul Coastal Police Station for assaulting a senior citizen, threatening him and endangering his life by rear-ending his two-wheeler.
The accused was identified as Dhananjay Dessai of Demani, Cuncolim. The constable has been charged under IPC Sections 504, 427, 324, 506 (ii) and 336. Police sources told O Heraldo that Dessai, who was declared a deserter from active service two months ago, has filed for an anticipatory bail application at the Margao Criminal Court.
According to information provided by Cuncolim PI Tukaram Chavan, a case was registered in response to a complaint lodged by Shrikant Dessai, a 64-year-old resident of Quital-Fatorpa, Quepem.
Shrikant Dessai detailed in his complaint that Dhananjay Dessai verbally abused him using profane language and made explicit threats on his life, related to a business matter. Subsequently, while the senior citizen was en route to his residence on a motorcycle, the accused followed him in his car. The situation escalated when the constable Dessai intentionally rammed the rear of Shrikant Dessai’s motorcycle, resulting in the senior citizen falling from his motorcycle and sustaining injuries.
When he was down, the accused allegedly attacked him with a stone and smashed his motorcycle, causing damages amounting to Rs 10,000. Following the attack, Dhananjay fled the scene, stated the complaint.
