PANJIM, MARCH 12: In the backdrop of manpower crunch faced by State Police Department, ironically, there is a batch of constables, who have completed their training but are still languishing in the Police Training School (PTS) at Valpoi, without any posting for last nine months.
Reliable sources told Herald that 131 police personnel, selected from the annual recruitment program, passed out from the PTS on May 7, 2010 after undergoing stringent nine months basic training courses. As per police set of laws, the process of deploying them in police stations should have begun. But except for a selected few, others have been stationed at PTS without postings.
Sources stated that two sub inspectors, who were the part of training were posted at different police stations while 17 lady constables were sent to GRP.
The remaining 119 candidates were given a 10-day-long break and later sent for pre-commando training at Nanoda, Valpoi. Subsequently, 45 students amongst them were chosen for anti-terrorist squad training at Hyderabad and remaining were asked to report to PTS, where they are still there.
In the series of training and coaching sessions, Goa Police ordered one more training ‘Force I Commando Training’ to now remaining 74 recruits at Pune Police Centre.
“We were willing to get the training in Pune but it was abruptly cancelled and without any intimation the department transferred us to Altinho for six months escort prisoners’ duty. Moreover, they did not issue us any relieving orders,” said the source.
Excited that they would now get a chance to serve at police stations, the candidates were dumbstruck to know that Goa Police’s letter dated March 6, 2011 asked them to report back to the PTS.
Repeated requests to allocate them specific duties have been turned down by senior officers. The recruits allege that having attained eligibility to perform specific tasks, they are being exploited instead.
“We are being used for August 15 (Independence Day), January 26 (Republic Day), December 19 (Goa’s Liberation Day) and Police Commemoration Day parades,” rued another.
The recruits have even alleged harassment as they are not even granted weekly day-off to meet their family members.
