PANJIM: A Convention Centre for Goa will soon be a reality with the State government expected to sign an agreement with Transactory Consultant on January 12, 2018. “The agreement will be signed on January 12 for the Convention Centre at Dona Paula,” Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Friday.
Parikar, in September had stated that the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), scheduled to be held in 2019, will be hosted at the convention centre that will be constructed through public private partnership (PPP). The cabinet approved the construction of the convention centre, which is planned to be built at Dona Paula.
The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), which is a local host for IFFI, will develop the convention centre to be constructed by creating a special purpose vehicle (SPV) under the Economic Development Corporation (EDC).
The CM had also stated that it is a model wherein government will earn revenue. The State government is planning to build a 5,000-6,000 seater convention centre, which will also have around 1,000 rooms for the accommodation. The committee headed by CM will monitor the construction.
