PANJIM: Justice F M Reis of the Bombay High Court at Goa Saturday issued contempt of court notices against the acting Chief Secretary of Goa R K Srivastava and PWD Principal Chief Engineer D J S Borkar for not complying with the order issued by the High Court on March 25 this year in connection with the recruitment of the junior engineers at the PWD.
After the Manohar Parrikar government came to power in March 2012 the junior engineers in the PWD who were selected and issued appointment letters by the previous government were told not to join service.
Aggrieved by this the junior engineers moved the High Court through a writ petition and a division Bench of the Bombay High Court at Goa comprising Justice R S Dalvi and Justice F M Reis on March 25 this year. The court held that the appointments dated December 16, 2011, of those junior engineers was correctly made and must be given effect to.
Since the government failed to comply with the directions of the High Court the junior engineers last month moved a contempt petition before the High Court against the acting Chief Secretary of Goa and the PWD Principal Chief Engineer for disobeying the order of the court.
Seeking justice for the aggrieved engineers, Adv Rodrigues Saturday drew the attention of Justice F M Reis that the engineers though duly selected were without a job for three years and in dire financial straits.
