CURCHOREM: Raju Pawar, 43, a line helper attached to Quepem Electricity department on contract basis died after being electrocuted on Friday at Sonafator, Tilamol while inspecting a line.
According to Junior Engineer Nilesh Velip, four other service men were sent along with Pawar to conduct the inspection of a high tension power line which was dead and not in service for the last 10 years. This was to help prepare an estimate to remove the same line after they received an application from private party to remove their connection.
“Pawar was alone at the spot at the time of the incident as the other personnel went to other spots to check the line. What happened and why Pawar climbed the nearby tree of whose branches were on the wires is not known,” said Velip
Investigating Officer of Quepem police station PSI Harish Raut Dessai said the deceased died due to electric shock as his both the hands were burnt. “The body was handed over to his family for final rites after the post mortem and further investigation is in progress,” PSI Dessai said.
