CANACONA: In a bid to reduce road accidents on blind curves along NH66 at Karmalghat, the PWD Highways has installed five convex mirrors.
The mirrors are installed along a 5 kilometre stretch of the highway, from Barcem to Gulem in Canacona, as it has witnessed more accidents in recent years.
The treacherous Karmalghat section of the road is narrow and has over a dozen blind curves and with many fold increase in traffic, accidents are a regular feature leading to loss of life and property and disruption of vehicular traffic.
When asked why only five blind turns are covered with convex mirrors leaving others as they are, the PWD officials said that due to financial restrictions they are installing one convex mirror at a time.
and within a year all the blind curves which pose danger to the vehicular movement will be installed with convex mirror as per the recommendations of traffic police they said.
