PANJIM: The issue over the transfers of lower rank officials has been sorted out, at least for now.
After intense pressure from the families of police personnel who were transferred en masse in view of forthcoming election, Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Yadav today assured that personnel will be relocated back to their parent police stations after elections.
“The officers have promised that all those who have been transferred due to forthcoming election will be transferred back to the original place of posting, after the election concludes,” family members told reporters merging out of a meeting with DIG Yadav and SP Headquarters Shekhar Prabhudesai at police headquarters.
But what’s interesting is that the assurance was given verbally whereas the order copy has no mention of it anywhere.
“In pursuance of orders of the Election Commission of India … dated February 6, 2012 by Joint Chief Electoral Officer, the following police sub inspectors, assistant sub inspector and head constables are hereby transferred and posted at the place indicated against their names with immediate effect in public interest,” the order reads as.
Earlier, about 50-60 aggrieved wives of the transferred personnel gheraoed JCEO Narayan Navti at the Election Commission office demanding withdrawal of the order.
Navti explained that the decision was taken by the ECI based on a report submitted by the police department.
While stating that he did not have the powers to withdraw the order, the poll officer added that the transfers are approved by the police establishment board.
“The matter is referred to the ECI,” he said.
On Thursday, the women submitted a memorandum to the ECI listing out a number of difficulties they will endure with the present transfer order.
The police department Wednesday issued transfers of 690 personnel to ensure free and fair election. The order evoked a sharp response by their families who complained that the far-off postings will affect the family also as children are due to answer their final exams.
There are also allegations that some of the officials postings’ have been retained keeping in mind their proximity to the political bosses.
