‘Cosmetic’ developments will be washed off with the rains, say concerned citizens

MARGAO: A group of citizens of Margao while condemning the haphazard works executed in view of the visit of the Prime Minister Narendra Modiji, challenged that the works will not survive a single monsoon season.

Addressing the media Arch Carlos Gracias along with Adv Snehal Onskar, Savio Coutinho and Domnic Coutinho, alleged that people are facing hardships due to the shifting of the bus stand and stated that there was no reason for the general public to “clap” for these “cosmetic” development works as it is a wastage of public funds.

Adv Onskar said that the present work has been awarded to a contractor without following any formalities and this seems to be a routine nowadays for this government.

Savio Coutinho stated that the hot mix carpet layer was being laid without providing a proper base/foundation and claimed that it would be washed off with the first showers and demanded that the government should come clear on the development of the SGPDA ground.

“A tender for the development of the same parking lot was issued by the SGPDA some years ago, but due to the unstable nature of the ground, the work was stopped, and it was proposed to revise the work specifications. We wonder whether the work is shown as completed,” Coutinho said.

When asked about the future course of action, he stated that the government itself is fully engaged in acts of corruption, we are in a quandary as to which department would entertain a complaint against this issue and added that they would take legal advice and act accordingly.
