MARGAO: The Aquem Ground Bachao Association has served a notice on the Margao Municipal Council to keep in abeyance the Municipal resolution dated July 2 which had okayed renewal of license for the housing project on the Costa ground at Aquem.
In the notice, Adv Jawahar Dias said that some of the Councillors were made to forcibly raise their hands at the meeting by instilling fear that they would be liable to pay compensation if the builder files a case.
He pointed out that the Councillors were forced to raise their hands when they were not served any prior notice nor any notice was circulated to them. He added that they were made to raise hands in contrast to the secrecy of voting, which is the basic ingredient of democracy.
It was further pointed out that the Margao Municipal Council had already adopted a resolution No 3992 last year stating that the civic body would resolve to acquire the land in question if other authorities and departments failed to do so. The notice further said that the Council had mandated the civic body to keep five Councillors informed as regards the Costa ground.
