MARGAO, JUNE 28
Margao Municipal Councillors on Monday demanded that the government introduce common cadre for the Municipal employees, even as the ghost of missing files came back to haunt the City Fathers.
At the Council meeting, the Councillors once again passed a resolution demanding common cadre for the Municipal staff to bring discipline and effecting functioning of the Municipal Councils.
The demand was made when the Civic body was discussing on the missing files from the accounts section.
Councillor Ganashayam Shirodkar reminded his colleagues that the City body had earlier passed a similar resolution, adding that no purpose would be served by this fresh resolution.
Chairperson Savio Coutinho, however, maintained that this resolution should serve as a reminder to the government on the need to implement common cadre for the civic employees.
Councilor Ramdas Hazare said the Councilors are not getting the desired support from the Municipal staff, adding that Municipal employees who intend to play politics should take voluntary retirement and contest the Municipal polls.
Today’s meeting began with an uproar from the opposition members, who were on their feet to protest the denial of labour for opposition ruled wards.
No sooner the Chairperson called the meeting to order, Councilor Narayan Fondekar protested that the opposition members have not been provided with workers in the last four months.
Former Councilor Kamlini Painginkar called for action against the builder responsible for narrowing down the water nullah at Rawanfond from five meters to four meters, causing floods in the locality.
She demanded that the Civic body initiates action against the builder and maintain the water nullah as per the survey plan.
The Meeting passed a resolution to issue NOC to the fire served to build an overhead water tank at the old fish market intended to augment water pressure in the fire hydrants in the Municipal markets.
On encroachments in the markets, the City Fathers resolved that any action contemplated against encroachments in the market passages should be taken in all the Municipal markets instead of targeting only the Gandhi market.
