PANJIM/VASCO: Holi, festival of colours was celebrated across Goa on a subdued note amid Coronavirus scare.
With the government clamping Section 144 CrPC as a preventive measure in view of spike in fresh COVID-019 cases, there were no processions and gatherings at major places like Panjim and other towns.
Flying squads were also deployed to ensure strict compliance of the prohibitory orders.
As there were no public celebrations, people celebrated Holi with their family members at home in a simple manner but exercising caution and smearing their faces with coloured power.
In Vasco port town Holi was celebrated in a low key manner amidst the imposed Section 144 CrPC in South Goa District.
The local police kept a strict vigil on the occasion, to see the implementation of Section 144 CrPC is adhere to in true spirit.
Alike last year, when there was a complete lockdown amidst COVID-19 pandemic across the country, this year also, the situation has not changed much.
With the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the capital city and other parts of Goa, the State government has imposed Section 144 CrPC in both the districts, which has curtailed the full throttle celebration of Holi this year.
Few people were seen paying visit to Lord Damodar Temple, to seek Lord Damodar’s blessings, unlike every year. There was not much crowd or the Holi fervour, which was seen usually. The youngsters, although in small pockets of the port town, were seen playing Holi by using minimal amount of water and colour to celebrate the festival.
Sources from Vasco Police Station informed that this year, policemen were deployed at Baina and Bogmalo Beaches to keep a strict vigil and safety of the people.
Police at Sada area were also seen taking round in their vehicles to check any large gathering of people.
