PANJIM: A Crime Branch team led by an inspector will leave for Mumbai on Wednesday to trace the whereabouts of two builders of Ruby Residency,Canacona, who government claimed are absconding, after the building collapsed killing 31 labourers in January 2014.
CB had formed a special core team last week to locate Pradip Singh Birring and Jugdeep Kumar Sehgal, directors of Bharat developers and Realtors Pvt Ltd in Vashi-Mumbai who police claimed went underground had gone underground since an FIR was registered against them for serious cognisable offences.
“The team will be sent to the residences and offices. The premises will also be searched to gather evidence related to the investigation. Their arrests are crucial…” said an officer.
Canacona police had recently handed over the case investigation to CB. Quepem deputy collector and SDM Prashant Shirodkar, deputy town planner Prakash Bandodkar and building contractor Vishwas Dessai are the three arrested hitherto. Two of them were remanded to 14 days judicial custody on Monday. Anticipatory bail applications of Birring and CMC engineers Ajay Dessai and Ashank Naik Gaunkar were rejected by the special court. The CB is expected to submit its status report to South Goa’s special court on Friday.
Meanwhile, former chief officers Pradip Naik and Dipak Desai were questioned on the third day on Tuesday. Sources said their questioning will continue on Wednesday as well.
