Incident: A police complaint was filed against two politicians from Ponda taluka, a temple committee, government officers and others for allegedly misappropriating land of a temple at Bandora-Ponda.
rn
Kashinath Shetye from Ribandar and Dr Ketan Govekar from Panjim lodged a complaint with Ponda Police stating that the temple committee members connived and conspired with some government officers, two politicians and others and allegedly misappropriated the temple land.
rn
“Sometime in 2003 to 2007, the land was misappropriated with the help of a person, who was the mediator to transfer the temple land to the two politicians and others,” stated the complaint.
rn
“The committee had given the land and the house, which belongs to the temple, to a Pujari to stay and perform Puja of the goddess,” added the complaint.
rn
“But after the retirement/demise of the Pujari, the sons of the Pujari with their ‘Political Connections’ not only grabbed the land illegally, but are now constructing new building in the same land with the help of new committee members,” stated the two complainants in their complaint to Ponda Police.
rn
The complainant further stated that the government servant has manipulated records to facilitate such illegal transfer of temple land.
rn
rn
Status of Investigation: Ponda Police said they are investigating into the complaint and action will be taken accordingly.
