PANJIM: After Herald reported on Thursday that a delegation of Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) in on an unannounced tour to Croatia, Mayor Uday Madkaikar has issued a statement from the Croatian city of Debrovnik stating that the trip is a part of the European Union International Urban Cooperation project which has led to sustainable urban cooperation between the cities of Panjim and Dubrovnik.
The statement says that a six-member CCP delegation headed by Madkaikar and Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues is visiting Dubrovnik from December 10-13, 2019 to meet with the Mayor of Dubrovnik Mato Frankovic and the president of city council Marko Potrebica and key city representatives.
“The Indian delegation also comprises of Deputy Mayor, a Corporator, Municipal Engineer and Project Executive. The purpose of the exchange visit is to strengthen the cooperation; visit smart city sites; and exchange best practices, especially in the field of smart city mobility and waste management. An elaborate schedule of meeting, site visits and presentations on projects are planned as well as those being executed by the City of Debrovnik is planned for visiting Panaji delegation. The outcome will be a joint local action plan,” the release says.
Madkaikar said that the Debrovnik Mayor welcomed the delegation saying “projects like this are of great importance for the future because they bring cities together, foster cooperation, exchange of experience and future good relationships.”
Madkaikar further said that he feels that “it is indeed beneficial to work with the important city like Debrovnik, with which we share some common features. The EU International Urban Cooperation Project provides us with the unique opportunity and we look forward to a productive partnership.”
The release further quoted CCP Commissioner as saying that the CCP is satisfied pairing with Debrovnik.
“There are very good opportunities for both the cities to work on issues of both local and global importance. We anticipate that this pairing will result in some real time solutions which will be useful for the citizens of Panaji,” says the statement issued by Madkaikar.
