MARGAO: A meeting to discuss the contentious issue of land acquisition for the proposed new Borim Bridge with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Public Works Department officials, has been scheduled for Thursday, newly inducted Minister Aleixo Sequeira told O Heraldo on Tuesday.
“Let me be very clear that we require a new bridge, however, we will discuss the issue pertaining to alignment. Working towards finding a solution,” said Sequeira. It is pertinent to note that a large number of residents of Loutolim village, including farmers and members of tenant associations have already expressed their objections for the proposed land acquisition for the approach roads to the new Borim bridge and the bypass road, and have pushed to cancel the land acquisition notification with immediate effect as per the village gram sabha resolution.
Sequeira said that he had already discussed the issue of the approach roads with CM Sawant.
Recently, farmers from Loutolim had met Aleixo Sequeira and vehemently expressed their opposition to the proposed extension of Borim Bridge through agricultural fields.
During the recent Gram Sabha (GS), PWD officials presented the proposed route of the alternative chosen by PWD, which notably passes through the Carbot Cantor and Vatlaim khazans.
It was pointed out that the entire area earmarked for acquisition in Loutolim village falls within the Coastal regulation Zone (CRZ), and a substantial portion of the area in Borim village along River Zuari is also within CRZ boundaries.
