MARGAO: Principal Sessions Judge Bharat Deshpande on Friday sentenced Raymond Barreto from Cuncolim to seven years imprisonment for his attempt to rob a finance company in Cuncolim and attack its staff on Dec 3, 2014.
On the said date Raymond, wearing a helmet, entered the office of Muthoot Finance at Cuncolim on the first floor carrying a danda in one hand and a knife in the other. He pushed aside the security guard and attacked the clerk Doris who however managed to escape. He then attacked the manager Divya but meanwhile Doris rang the alarm.
Hearing the alarm Raymond tried to flee but saw the third employee who had gone for lunch returning and tried to jump down the staircase but fractured his leg and was arrested.
Raymond has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 in default of which on month imprisonment under Section 398 IPC for attempt to commit robbery, for one month imprisonment and fine of Rs 5000 in default of which 15 days imprisonment for causing hurt with dangerous weapon and for year imprisonment and fine of Rs. 5 thousand in default of which one month imprisonment.
While Public Prosecutor Ladislau Fernandes argued the case for the State, Raymond was represented by Adv. Rajiv Gomes.
