CUNCOLIM: The State government has approved the demand made by local MLA Clafacio Dias to provide well-equipped COVID Care Centre in the newly constructed Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) commercial building, here.
“Efforts are being made to set up a 24-bedded COVID Care Centre on the first floor of the building. If all goes well, the proposed COVID Care Centre is expected to be ready by next week,” claimed the MLA.

On Friday, Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, Health Officer of Balli Primary Health Centre Mamata Kakodkar and Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar inspected the commercial building in Cuncolim and it was approved to set up a 24-beded step-up hospital with oxygen facilities in four large rooms.
“Patients will be provided all the medical and other facilities at the step-up hospital. Efforts will be made to curb the pandemic and save lives,” Dias informed the reporters.
The MLA said that he was prepared to increase the bed capacity if required. I will personally see that all patients get adequate flow of oxygen provided beds.
While briefing the media persons, Dr Kakodkar said that if they get all the requisite facilities and manpower required to run the step-up hospital, the PHC is ready to accept the challenge. Dr Kakodkar appealed to the local social organisations and the people of Cuncolim to cooperate for this mission.
Dias assured that the step-up hospital will be provided with the necessary facilities and staff by the COVID Management Committee. By starting a step-up hospital in Cuncolim, it will help reduce the stress on the South Goa District Hospital and ESI Hospital, Margao.
