Police in Curchorem have agreed to invoke provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and the Goa Children’s Act in connection with an alleged sex scandal case, following a protest by opposition leaders and party workers.
The development came after Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar and Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai, along with Congress and GFP supporters, gheraoed the Police Inspector at the local police station, demanding stricter legal action.
During the protest, Sardesai reportedly spoke with Director General of Police Alok Kumar over the phone, urging immediate intervention in the matter.
Following the conversation, the Police Inspector agreed to apply the relevant provisions under both Acts against the accused.
The case has since intensified political attention, with opposition leaders insisting on stringent action and accountability. Further investigation is underway.
