Curlies demolition continues under police protection

Major parts of the stage and the nightclub on the first floor were razed; demolition to continue Sunday; with no proper access to the site for the earthmoving machinery, demolition was carried out manually; It could take at least a week to bring the entire structure down

ANJUNA:  The demolition of the controversial Curlies shack continued for the second consecutive day on Saturday under police protection and in presence of State officials.

On Saturday, the demolition commenced at 8.30 am and went on till 6.30 pm as major portions of the shack in survey numbers 42/9 and 42/11 were grounded after clearing the furniture and fibre items.

A major part of the stage and the nightclub located on the first floor of the shack were demolished. The demolition will continue on Sunday as it is learnt that it will take the authorities at least a week to demolish the entire structure.

Meanwhile, a portion of the restaurant on the first floor and half of the restaurant on the ground floor and the toilet in Survey No 42/10 have been secured following the Supreme Court order. The authorities will demolish the portions in Survey Nos 42/9, 42/11, 45/ 19 and 45/41 respectively.

The demolition is being carried out manually by the labourers as earthmoving machinery cannot reach the site on account of no proper access.

SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi said, “So far more than 50 per cent of the shack has been demolished. The drive will continue on Sunday.”
