RAIA: The fatal accident that occurred at Curtorim a few days ago was due to negligence of the oncoming deceased two-wheeler rider Antonio Da Costa, and there was no fault of the other victim Abel Sequeira, said Niffa Sequeira, the eyewitness and wife of Abel, who also succumbed to his injuries.
The accident had claimed the life of Antonio (33) and Abel (67).
Reacting to reports in the media, Niffa said that the news was published on the basis of wrong information. According to Niffa, the accident occurred when she along with her husband were proceeding on their two-wheeler from Macazana to Margao, and when they reached Monzon-Curtorim, an oncoming two-wheeler rider at full speed knocked them down, severely injuring her husband and her.
After the accident, all the injured were taken to the government hospital by an ambulance, where Antonio died on same day, while Abel succumbed to his injuries after four days – on July 12.
However, the Maina-Curtorim police registered an FIR against Sequeira under Sections 279 and 304 (A) of IPC, which according to Niffa was wrong and claimed that the accident has been captured on CCTV, and that the footage would reveal the actual culprit.
She has strongly demanded that the Maina-Curtorim police should withdraw the IPC Sections falsely applied against her husband, late Abel, and he should not be named as the accused in the case.
