PORVORIM: In a step towards preventing land grab cases or fraudulent land deals, the State government on Monday announced the linking of Aadhaar Card (unique identification number) with the land records. The government also intends to upgrade the online property register, wherein the financial institutions and quasi-judicial decisions would be linked.
Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate on Monday told House that in order to prevent land fraud, the government is in process of linking the land record rights with the Aadhaar number, so that everytime there are any changes in proper rights, the message goes to the registered owner.
He said that the government intends to upgrade the Department of Settlement and Land Records online property register, which will allow people to verify the owners of the property and other information before entering into a transaction.
“Further, financial institutions, judicial and quasi judicial decisions, PWD, Electricity Department will also be linked with property register so that encumbrances, if any, will be known to the public,”he said. The Minister said that the government has proposed to notify new land rates that are market driven and linked to rates of built-up properties, which will be used as ready reckoner for the purpose of calculation of stamp duty and registration fee.
Monserrate also informed about the plans to also develop mobile applications to locate and identify properties on a real-time basis.
