MARGAO: Mathew Colaco surrendered before the Maia-Curtorim police on Friday morning, six days after he was declared as absconding. The police will take remand of him on Saturday, but have already begun their interrogations.
It is the second breakthrough in the case involving the drug-related deaths of two youth at a private birthday party hosted by Alston D’Mello on April 19. Alston was arrested and released on bail, while another accused Chris Pereira has reportedly fled the area.
Colaco had allegedly supplied drugs to the party-goers, and it had resulted in the deaths of Paraj Raikar and Rodston Monteiro. He is known to run a drug business from Loutolim, and has reportedly gathered a huge gang of peddlers over time.
One of the party-goers also stated that Colaco tried to force-feed narcotic to the invitees. He himself was forced to consume drugs, but he kept them in his mouth and spat them out later, he said.
The party’s organizer and the other accused were booked under sections 304 of Indian Penal Code, Section 20(B) (ii) (a), section 27 and 29.
