MARGAO: Maina Curtorim police yester booked a case against one Rui Menezes from Corjem, Curtorim for stealing sand from the government river.
Incidentally, Menezes is a former sarpanch of Curtorim against whom a case has been booked under Section 379 and 21 of Mines and Mineral Development Regulation Act.
According to the complaint lodged by PSI Chandrakant Velip, on October 10, the accused used machinery to steal sand from the government river as he had no lease or license to extract sand from the river.
The extracted sand was stored in the private property of the accused for transporting it clandestinely to elsewhere.
