Curtorim meet witnesses uproar over private road construction

The gram sabha of Curtorim Village Panchayat witnessed an uproar over the NOC given by the panchayat for the construction of a private road in the village.
The issue dominated the gram sabha as members sought to know from the sarpanch the reasons behind issuing NOC for the 160-meter road.
Agitated villagers contended that the private road is leading towards Moti Dongor and sought to know whether the road is being built for the benefit of the property owners.
Gram sabha members demanded revocation of the NOC for the private and asked the sarpanch to place the matter before the next gram sabha for discussion. Some members also demanded that the matter be kept in abeyance before it is discussed threadbare at the next meeting.
A suggestion was also put forth to constitute a committee comprising of the Sarpanch, secretary and a surveyor to demarcate the area to find out whether the road goes to Moti Dongor or not.
Former ZP member J Santano Rodrigues sough to know from the chair the projects proposed by the Panchayat for the year 2010-11 and the proposals taken up under the Tribal sub-plan by the Panchayat.
He also placed before the meeting the matter of bifurcation of the village Panchayat of Curtorim into Maina and Curtorim for better administration and development. This matter is likely to come up for discussion at the next gram Sabha, Rodrigues said.
Telaulim BPL list:?Members of the Telaulim gram sabha on Sunday urged the panchayat body to ensure that only the deserving people are included in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) list.
Inclusion of families in the BPL list came up for discussion at the Sunday gram Sabha with members demanding to know the number of families from the village included in the BPL List.
When the Sarpanch pointed out that the Panchayat had forwarded to the authorities around 80 cases and that only four stands approved till date, the members said that only the deserving cases should be given priority in the list.
The members were explained that the cases forwarded by the Panchayat did not find favour with the authorities as they did not fall within the prescribed criteria.
The members later told the panchayat to forward the 13 cases finalized by the body for inclusion in the BPL list.
The meeting also gave approval for the construction of two culverts and the members were briefed on the free legal aid scheme.
