SANGUEM: Cyclonic winds played havoc at Nunem and the hilly areas of Verlem, Salgini and Tudov in Netravali with several incidences of uprooting of trees being reported in the village. The standing crop and banana and sugarcane plantation were badly damaged in the village. The roads in the villages were blocked and about five incidences of damages to houses were also reported in the village.
“The village of Netravali has been in total darkness since the last two days while the hilly areas of Verlem, Salgini and Tudov are reeling under cover of darkness since last many days,” said Deputy Sarpanch Abhijit Desai.
While there is some ray of hope of main Netravali village getting power supply for Diwali, the villagers residing in the hilly areas of Verlem, Salgini and Tudov are likely to remain and celebrate the festival of light in darkness.
Desai added that despite total power failure in the village, the Electricity Department engineers have not visited the village to ascertain the power situation in the village.
Due to the incidences of tree falling, some three electricity poles have crashed down and the department is yet to undertake the repair work. The electricity cables at many places are affected and needs immediate repair work for the power supply to restore in the village.
At Nunem, the metal roof top of the house of one Nondu Gaonkar was blown off due to gusty winds. The paddy fields in the village have also been totally washed away causing severe damages to farm lands.
