MARGAO: Damodar Mauzo, a celebrated Goan short story writer, novelist, critic, scriptwriter, and recipient of the 57th Jnanpith Award, has been chosen as the recipient of the ‘Gulab’s Personality of the Year’ award. The announcement was made during a recently held meeting of the Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa Memorial Trust. The honour is jointly bestowed by popular Konkani monthly magazine Gulab, and the Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa Memorial Trust.
Alongside Damodar Mauzo, several other prominent personalities were revealed as recipients of various awards for the year 2022, including the Felicio Cardoso Journalism Award. Anthony Menezes, a noted Konkani novelist and executive editor of the Konkani Literary Annual magazine ‘Goencho Avaz’, has been bestowed with the ‘Gulab Writer of the Year’ accolade. Agnelo de Borim, a non-commercial tiatr writer, director, and renowned compere, has been selected to receive the distinguished ‘Gulab Tiatrist Award’.
In addition, Fr. José Dias, a fiery political journalist currently serving as the Parish Priest of St. Matthew’s Church in Azossim, has been honoured with the Felicio Cardoso Journalism Award for 2022.
The awards will be presented to the recipients on July 20, during a special ceremony held at the Ravindra Bhavan Conference Hall in Margao. This event aims to commemorate the 70th birth anniversary of the late Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa, the founder of Gulab.
