The weak make-shift foot bridge cross the water channel at Muthal in Sadolxem, made with the help of an old electricity pole has corroded and if immediate action was not taken and repairs undertaken, it could result in fatal accidents.
It may be noted that before the motorable road was built, which passes through the Sadolxem village, there was this pedestrian foot path, which is now used as a shortcut by some people in the village, who prefer walking the distance.
However, the two electric poles placed between the banks of the water channel, which serve as makeshift bridge, en route the traditional pathway have corroded beyond limits and could collapse at any time a pedestrian walked over it, resulting in fatal injuries or even death due to drowning. Perhaps the situation has become worse due to the saline waters and the lack of maintenance.
Locals using this path said a few years ago this gap was bridged by a coconut tree trunk, which snapped and a local woman had fallen in the water during high tide. Fortunately she was lucky to be saved from drowning by local fishermen who were around when the incident happened.
The path is mostly used by the fishing community who also live around the area.
They lament that the temporary bridge was in a very bad state and complain to the authorities have not yielded any results so far.
When Ramdas Pujari the Sarpanch of Poinguinim village panchayat in whose jurisdiction this ward comes was asked about the condition of the footbridge, he said that he was not aware of the condition of the makeshift bridge and now since the matter has been brought to his notice, he would request the PWD to get it repaired as soon as possible.
