BICHOLIM: Darkness engulfed the house of Pratiksha Pednekar at Ghotaneshwar wada, Lakhere, Bicholim, on New Year’s Eve. A fire broke out in her house causing major damage. No one was injured in the incident since they were sleeping elsewhere.
Pratiksha Pednekar informed that they had left the house by evening and on a daily basis they sleep elsewhere.
“Our neighbours saw there fire. They got scared and stood at a distance. They informed us and we reached around 11.30pm. By that time the Fire Brigade had arrived from Bicholim Fire Station. The fire fighters fire for a long time. They the beams caught fire and the tiles collapsed. We removed the gas cylinder. The fire was put off around 12.30pm. Pratiksha stated, narrating her ordeal.
But when the returned in the morning, there was still smoke bellowing from the beams. “Most probably the fire was caused due to a short circuit. Mixers and fans were destroyed,” Pratiksha said.
The kitchen and the roof were completely burnt. Electrical appliances, utensils, and clothes in the house were burnt causing a loss of upto Rs 1 lakh. Neighbours alerted the owners and also called the fire brigade, which put off the fire.
