PONDA: It’s been 20 days since the Central government’s demonetisation move and there seems no end to people’s plight in Ponda.
The common man, be it small vendors, consumers, etc. especially in the taluka, everyone seems to be chanting the common phrase “modd di”, which is seconded by another common one “modd na”.
With the government stressing on cashless economy, the small vendors have been complaining of cash shortage, which has affected their business.
When this reporter visited Ponda market, most of vendors complained that they were forced to suffer to hand over a change of Rs 100 and Rs 50 notes for a Rs 2,000 note.
A woman, who sells vegetables in the market complained saying, “We fail to provide change and as such we lose customers and the demonetisation has affected our business. People still come with demonetised notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 for purchasing vegetables and we cannot provide the change due to shortage of Rs 100 and Rs 50 notes. Besides this, many aged vendors who do not have a bank account are suffering due to the demonetisation move.”
While, majority of the vendors claimed suffering due to demonetisation move, only a few said they are getting sufficient change and their business is not much affected.
The common man standing in queues in the Banks and at the ATMs has been blaming PM Modi for their plight due to the demonetisation.
Many of them question as to why the rich politicians are not seen in queues and why only the common man is forced to stand in a queue to withdraw his/her hard-earned money.
Upset with the Central government’s demonetisation move, the common man has been reportedly seeking answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as to when will they be able to bear witness to “Ache Din” as he has been reported saying “Acche Din Anewale Hai”.
