MARGAO: Upon the request from some village panchayats, the Directorate of Panchayats on Friday extended the time period to reconstitute the Biodiversity Management Committees at gram sabhas to November 8, instead of October 23. A circular issued by Siddhi T. Halarnakar, Director of Panchayats, directed the Block Development Officers to inform all the village panchayats about their time extension to reconstitute BMCs at ordinary/extraordinary gram sabhas and the resolution in the prescribed format shall have to be submitted to respective BDOs under intimation to Director of Panchayats, Goa State Biodiversity Board, Department of Science and Technology and Environment. Earlier, the department had directed the Sarpanchas of village panchayats to constitute the BMCs at gram sabhas by October 23, but some VPs had already done so, while others requested more time.
