Death toll rises; new cases see a spurt

497 persons test positive for COVID-19 as Goa breaches 15k mark

PANJIM: COVID-19 deaths continued to rise in Goa on Wednesday as eight patients succumbed to the virus. The day also saw 497 people testing positive, while 287 patients were declared cured. 

Three men of ages 52, 72 and 62 from Fatorda-Margao are amongst those who died due to COVID on Wednesday. All the eight patients who died were suffering from co-morbid conditions.

As per the bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS), a 64-year-old woman from Peddem-Mapusa, who was brought dead at North Goa district hospital, tested positive for coronavirus.

A 60-year-old man from Sanvordem died while being taken from the South Goa District Hospital to Goa Medical College. Another 43-year-old man from Arlem and a 63-year-old man from Belabai-Vasco and a 71-year-old man from Chinchinim, admitted in ESI-Margao hospital, were declared dead. 

There are another 98 patients in hospital isolation. 

Further, of the 2714 samples tested for COVID-19, 497 were declared positive while 1914 were negative. The test result of 303 samples is awaited. 

On Wednesday, 225 patients opted for home isolation. 

Since January 29, Goa has reported 15,027 confirmed coronavirus cases, of which 3351 are active cases. As many as 11,511 patients have recovered, and there have been 165 deaths.
