Decree holders accuse Mapusa Municipal CO of fraudulently restoring building occupancy

MAPUSA: The decree holders of controversial project Prabhu Chambers, Mapusa, filed a complaint against the Mapusa civic body’s chief officer before the Directorate of Vigilance for fraudulently restoring revoked part occupancy of the building.

One of the decree holders Jitesh Kamat accused chief officer Chandrakant Shetkar of alleged corruption by violating the law and misusing his office. He demanded immediate suspension of the chief officer and the engineers involved in granting the said occupancy fraudulently.

Kamat stated that no one will be spared and that they will even take to the streets if these corrupt officers don’t get dismissed from the service. How can a government be sympathetic towards such an officer against whom there are many complaints? asked Kamat.

Part occupancy of the controversial building Prabhu Chambers was revoked by the Mapusa municipal council way back on September 12, 2019.

Recently, the technical department of the Mapusa municipal council conducted an inspection on of the building on September 1, 2023, as per the directions of the High Court of Bombay at Goa and that in the inspection report, the technical department had pointed out certain deficiencies pertaining to the said project and submitted its report to the Principal District Court at Panjim on September 6, in the execution application.

But to the shock and dismay of the decree holders, the chief officer holding additional charge Chandrakant Shetkar, on the next day restored the occupancy of the said building without the developer Venkatesh Prabhu Moni rectifying the deficiencies pointed out in the inspection report, thereby contradicting its own inspection report.

Decree holders later approached director of municipal administration Gurudas Pilarnekar and revoked the part occupancy issued to the project and also dismissed the communication dated September 7, 2023 restoring part occupancy certificate of the project by the Mapusa chief officer.
