PONDA: MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar who had declared that he was contesting from Shiroda for the Assembly re-polls, went a step ahead on Thursday by offering prayers and seeking blessing of Goddess Navdurga at Borim and Saibaba Temple.
Speaking to reporters after offering prayers he said his party has already begun working closed doors in the constituency. He said door-to-door campaign of MGP will commence from January 16. He offered prayers since Thursday was one of auspicious days. He said his decision to contest by-election would have no impact on the ruling government in any way. Three MGP MLAs are at present supporting the BJP-led alliance government.
“Shiroda people are suffering; development work is halted. There is no MLA to sign on life certificates needed for schemes implemented by government for public interest,” said Deepak.
“MLAs are changing their parties by resigning; they are taking the voters for granted. Because of these actions MGP has suffered in the past,” Deepak added.
“MGP had filed a petition but the party did not get justice and so we are now approaching the ‘People`s Court’ and the people will decide and MGP will get justice,” he quipped.
He said MLAs are leaving one party and joining another for their vested interests. He said Ladli Laxmi schemes and other government schemes are not reaching the citizens in the absence of an MLA.
MGP’s move to contest the Shiroda seat on its own has surprised the locals as the party was expected to support the former Congress MLA Subash Shirodkar to win the seat for BJP.
