PONDA: Dysfunctional streetlights along the Bethora and Shiroda roads have been causing inconvenience to motorists and citizens here over the last few months.
Long stretches along the Gawalwada – Chikangal and Betora – Gawalwada have faulty streetlights and driving here at nights has been a harrowing experience, say people, who frequently travel here and have demanded that the lights be fixed before the onset of the monsoon.
People from Codli, Dabhal, Nirankal, Dharbandora and surrounding areas besides several youth travel to the Betora Industrial Estate on a daily basis and often narrate their tales of woe that unfold while travelling at nights.
Wild animals especially gaur and wild boar unexpectedly cross the roads at nights and result in several accidents recently, say motorists and add that very often wildlife too is either injured and spotted dead by the roadside.
They claim that in the absence of street lights, it makes it difficult to identify gaurs or stray cattle and this often results in accidents.
The local panchayat has erected sigh boards warning about the presence of gaurs in the vicinity however, the board is not visible at night and serves no practical purpose, say irate motorists.
