PANJIM:The process of re appointment a Lokayukta in the state will be further delayed as the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that since the Lokpal Bill was passed at the Centre they would have to check if there are any clashing clauses in the state’s Act.
“The Centre has passed the Lokpal act. I will have to see if our law conflicts with that,” he said adding that the provisions will have to be examined.
He however did not reply to adirect question as to whether the process of a appointment new Lokayukta had started. It may be recalled that the passing of the Lokayukta Act and the appointment of a lokayukts itself had turned out to be a long drawn out and torturous process with amendments proposed by Parriakr being slammed by civic society including the Aam Admi Party chief Arvind kejriwal who had called them “stupid.”
Also after serving as a Lokayukta for around seven months, justice B Sudershan Reddy had resigned citing personal reasons. AAP had then slammed the government for adopting deemed rejection and high penalties for fraudulent complaints in the Goa Lokayukta Bill.
Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has said that the BJP was cheating Goans, while systematically shielding corrupt people in the state’s political arena, by amending the Goa Lokayukat bill.
How can anyone expect a government accused of corruption to act against its own members Kejriwal had pointed out during a visit to the state while also criticizing the deemed rejection clause.
The state had put up a clause saying that if the government did not accept the decision of the Lokayukta within three months then it is deemed rejected.
These were subsequently taken out and the bill passed.
