MAYEM: A three-member delegation from Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka visited the Kalsa dam site at Kankumbi on Thursday.
It may be recalled that the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal headed by Justice Panchal in its interim order last month had directed to stop the Mhadai water flowing to Malaprabha River by constructing a bundh and block the flow of water.
The three states concerned were directed to appoint one member each into the committee.
Accordingly, Shrikant Patil, K H Ansari and Ashok Vasnad inspected the site on Thursday to construct the bundh to stop water flowing from Kalsa canal to Malaprabha River. The construction of the bundh has to be completed by May 31.
“The Karnataka Niravary Nigam has reportedly been doing the work of Kalsa canal to divert Mhadei water into Malaprabha River. Today’s development has given some hope of protecting Mhadei and we are hopeful that Goa’s interest will be protected,” said noted environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar.
