MARGAO: With the delimitation of panchayats completed, in Salcete only two panchayats have increased their wards by two while Rachol continues to be not only the smallest but the only panchayat in the taluka to have five wards.
The village panchayat of Orlim will now have seven wards as against five it had earlier while Varca village panchayat will have nine wards instead of seven it had earlier.
Of the 30 panchayats in Salcete, 16 will have seven wards namely Ambelim, Assolna, Carmona, Cavelossim, Orlim, Benaulim, Dramapur Sirlim, Rumdamol Davorlim, Chandor-Cavorim, Paroda, Betalbatim, Seraulim, Macasana, Guirdolim, Sarzora and Camurlim.
Five panchayats will have nine wards and they are Varca, Velim, Aquem Baixo, Colva, Loutolim while eight panchayats namely Cana Benaulim, Chinchinim Deussua, Navelim, Davorlim Dicarpale, Curtorim, Nuvem, San Jose Areal and Raia will have 11 wards.
All the 16 panchayats having seven wards will have ward Nos. 3 and 4 reserved for women while the five panchayats having nine wards will ward Nos. 3, 5 and 8 reserved for women.
Of the 8 panchayats having 11 wards six will have ward Nos. 1, 3, 5 and 8 reserved for ladies while in the village panchayats of Curtorim and Benaulim ward number 2 instead of 3 will be reserved for women along with ward Nos. 1, 5 and 8.
