PONDA: Demanding the shifting of IFFI from the State, a body of film makers has insisted that the State government should instead utilise the money to develop film culture in the State.
Milind Mhadgut, president of the Film Makers, a body of Goan film producers, claimed that the association has 16 members and are of the opinion that the State government should stop wasteful expenditure on IFFI and instead concentrate on local film industry.
“I feel IFFI is nothing but a white elephant and the State government which spends about Rs 10 crore on this festival should be stopped. Government should concentrate on developing infrastructure and promote local film industry,” stated Mhadgut during a news conference at Ponda on Monday.
Substantiating his demand to shift the IFFI venue, Mhadgut said, “We feel there is no place for the locally produced films at IFFI. Selective preference is given to the films that will be screened (not part of the IFFI) by Entertainment Society of Goa.”
