Demand to notify yellow-black taxi stand at Mopa airport

General Secretary of All Goa Bus Owners Association, Sudip Tamhankar said that after completion of land acquisition process, the work of taxi stand should be carried out and notified as a Mopa Airport Taxi Stand

PERNEM: As unemployed youth from Pernem are purchasing four-wheelers to venture into taxi business, transporters’ association has demanded a yellow-black taxi stand at Mopa airport.

In a memorandum submitted to Regional Transport Officer Pernem, General Secretary of All Goa Bus Owners Association, Sudip Tamhankar has suggested to notify a taxi stand at Mopa airport site and carry out the process from land acquisition till the formation of yellow-black taxi stand at the upcoming airport in the interest of unemployed youth of Pernem Taluka.

Tamhankar said that presently it is observed that most of the unemployed youth from Pernem Taluka have purchased tourist taxis and they are thinking that by doing so they can start their business at the Mopa Airport. “However these youth are not aware of the permit condition for tourist taxis, which mandates that the vehicle shall not be parked on public stand or in a public place offered for hire and shall be used only for the conveyance of tourist. The vehicle owner shall not obstruct any vehicle or tourist from choosing a vehicle of his / her choice for transportation anywhere within the State,” he informed.

He further said that the permit holder shall not form any unlawful assembly and obstruct free movement of tourist/ public in transport medium of their choice. The permit is liable to be cancelled upon violation of this condition.

“The unemployed youths who have purchased and those who are in the process of purchasing the tourist taxis with an intention that they will get opportunity to make business at the Mopa Airport, will be in soup and at loss,” Tamhankar emphasised. 

He stated that a taxi stand should be identified at Mopa Airport for the convenience of the taxi operators and the RTA should propose to the government taking up the issue of land acquisition for parking of 1000 taxis on Mopa airport taxi stand.

Tamhankar said that after completion of land acquisition process, the work of taxi stand should be carried out and notified as a Mopa Airport Taxi Stand and RTO should decide how many yellow-black taxi permits to be issued, open the process of granting of permits for the yellow -black taxis on Mopa airport.
