Demolition held up for over two hours at Fatorda

MARGAO: Public Works Department officials along with police personnel and the Mamlatdar were held up for nearly two and a half hours at Fatorda opposite the PWD offices this morning when they had gone to demolish a portion of a house for road widening.
The owners of the houses that slated for demolition have already been paid their compensation and they have agreed to let their houses be demolished. However, Ruby Fernandes whose house was to be demolished on Tuesday claimed to have not been intimated by the officials about the demolition.
When she was given half an hour to remove her belongings she refused claiming that time was not sufficient and held up the entire demolition process by refusing to allow the officials enter her premises.
After much cajoling at around 12.30 noon, Ruby allowed the officials to demolish only the outer portion of her house seeking time to shift her belongings to a safe location inside the remaining portion of the house that will not be demolished.
