Dempo silent of sale of stake in FC Goa

PANJIM: FC Goa co-owner Shrinivas Dempo chose to remain silent on media reports that gaming giant Delta Corp could be buying majority stakes in the club he co-owns with Dattaraj Salgaocar and others.

“I wish to offer no comment. The final verdict is expected on July 22,” Dempo said. The verdict he referred to is the final decision to be taken by the ISL Regulatory Commission that has been delayed till next week.
Earlier the ISL Regulatory Commission had come down heavily on FC Goa announcing the team will be docked 15 points in the third edition for unacceptable behaviour after the final of the second edition last year.
It had also imposed a fine of Rs 11 crore on the team and banned Dempo and Salgaocar from entering the stadium during the league.
Since that decision speculation had grown that Dempo and Salgaocar could quit and sell their stake depending on the final order. At present Dempo and Salgaocar have a 70 percent stake in the team while 20% is held by Videocon Group and the remaining 10% with Indian cricketer Virat Kohli.
As per the club’s appeal, there was no opportunity given to cross examine the witnesses and no opportunity was accorded to FC Goa to present evidence as to what actually transpired during the final match between FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC.
