MARGAO: Dengue, the dreaded vector-borne disease has Margao’s Hospicio in its grip as 10 such cases have been reported in the hospital with some employees raising apprehensions that they too could suffer from the disease on account of the prevailing working conditions.
Among the 10 patients, the hospital’s security guard, who has been affected by the dreaded vector-borne disease, is undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim while another has been admitted to Sanguem Health Centre.
Besides the 10 patients, there are around 18 suspected cases, wherein the blood samples of the patients have been sent for lab testing.
Hospicio’s Medicine Ward, which can accommodate 38 patients, is now overcrowded with at least 50 patients. Upon inquiry, it was confirmed that 9 patients have been suffering from dengue while most are suspected cases. A Hospicio employee, who showed symptoms, has been accommodated in some other ward due to a lack of beds.
According to sources, two other security guards, who were admitted to Hospicio, were discharged recently. Even a nurse got herself admitted following symptoms.
