PONDA: The locals of Nagzar Curti, with the support of devotees have decided to renovate the oldest Mahadev Temple, which is located on the banks of Ponda’s main nullah. Every year access to the area gets afforded due to flooding caused by the overflowing water from the nullah, which led to the decision to renovate the temple.
The renovation plans were announced by the Priest of the temple, Uhas Naik, President of the Mahadev Mandir Trust, Mangaldas Naik and members, who addressed media persons.
Ulhas shared the history of the temple and said that earlier there was a
Shivling at the place, which King Saundekar of Bandora used to worship and seek blessing of deities before going to war.
“For a long time, this place was in isolation and our forefathers at that time had constructed a small (sized) temple, which now has a thousand of people worshipping it, especially during Maha Shivaratri (festival),” Naik added.
He added that local panch member Dadi Naik and Ponda MLA Ravi Naik had assured their full support in the construction of the temple.
He reiterated that it is the wish of the locals and devotees for the old temple to be renovated into a bigger (sized) temple.
