PERNEM: Redkar Hospital, Dhargal-Pernem will begin the process of human trials of a potential COVID-19 vaccine on Monday (July 20).
Dr Dhananjay Lad heading the trials at Redkar Hospital said, “Before starting the vaccine trial, the screening of 10 volunteers will be done wherein their blood and swab samples will be collected and sent to AIIMS, Delhi for testing. Once the reports are normal then will start the vaccination”.

Dr Lad informed that all 12 facilities that are listed for human trials of Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech International Limited were supposed to start the trial at a time. However, recently during a virtual meeting held by the investigator, the plan changed.
Dr Lad said, “During the meeting it was decided that only volunteers from community will be considered for this trial during the first phase. Health care staff will be considered in second or third phase”.
Dr Lad informed that the tests will be conducted on COVID-19 negative patients.
