Dhavali locals fear new streetlight poles on narrow roads could lead to accidents

Say the concrete base for new poles laid on the edge of the road could pose hurdles for road widening in future

PONDA: The Dhavali locals have expressed concerns over the new streetlight poles planned on the edge of narrow roads which could lead to accidents and pose hurdles for road widening in future.

The locals said the poles should be installed one-two metres away from the edge of the road.

The concrete base for new streetlight poles has been laid on the edge of the road along the Dhavali stretch.

It is pertinent to note that the underground power cabling work is progressing in Dhavali and the old concrete poles by the roadside will be replaced with new streetlight poles.

However, according to locals, while carrying out the work, the concrete base for the new steel streetlight poles is laid on the edge of the road, which could lead to accidents and pose hurdles for road widening in future.

The locals said the road is already narrow and such work was not expected and called  for proper supervision from the authorities concerned.

They said that the old concrete electric poles are located one-and-half to two metres  from the road shoulder.
