VASCO: Expressing shock over some land digging work opposite Hansa Gate near the Dabolim Airport, Goencho Avaaz co-convenor Capt Viriato Fernandes claimed that the work is related to doubling of railway track and alleged that the contractor has no permission from Chicalim Panchayat to undertake the same.
Addressing media persons, Capt Viriato said he received information that some land digging work is in progress opposite Hansa gate near Dabolim airport.
Fernandes said although he tried contacting the Chicalim Sarpanch and another panch to enquire into the matter they were not reachable.
Capt Viriato said he managed to contact a panch along with whom he visited the site.
“We questioned the contractor and learnt that this work is of doubling of railway track. In October, the people had protested before the Mormugao Deputy Collector’s Office and at that time Chief Minister had assured the people that the double tracking work will be stopped until further orders”, he said.
Fernandes said, “When questioned, the contractor informed that he has got the permissions from the panchayat. However after checking, it came to light that the contractor has got permission to set up his office in a private quarter and not for the double tracking work.”
Captain Fernandes appreciated the Chicalim sarpanch and panchas’ stand not to allow double tracking work.
