PANJIM: Congress rejected the statement of Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai that the Regional Plan may not be completed by December 2017.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat stated that even Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza as TCP minister during the last term had acknowledged in the Assembly that RP 2021 stands notified.
Kamat, speaking to the media after the Goa Pradesh Congress Executive Committee meeting, said, “As far as my government is concerned the Regional Plan 2021 stands notified even today. You can go through the Assembly reply given to me by the Town and Country Planning minister Francis D’Souza who admits that RP 2021 stands notified.”
Responding to a question on the disqualification petition against Vishwajit Rane, Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavalekar said the party has finalised the petition and would be filing it soon.
“We have taken opinions from various legal experts and now we are ready with the disqualification petition and it is just a matter of time when we will the petition for Vishwajit’s disqualification, though officially he is not a Congress member now,” he added.
On Vishwajit’s exit from the Congress, his father Pratapsingh Rane said, “My family affairs are not to interfere with political affairs. It would be my political decision as what I should do and balance both.”
However, speaking on the delay by the Congress in forming the government, the veteran MLA said the party cannot live on the laurels and has to move with the times. “People want development, people want work and people want fast decisions. I think people have waited for the decision of the Congress party and though we had the mandate of the people, we could not reach the decision in time for various reasons.”
He pointed out that the reasons included bad communication between the Governor and the leadership of the Congress. He said “But we have to change. We cannot think of the past but look at the future. Work for the party and go ahead.”
